WEAVERS

All the weavers are disabled. Most have a severe hearing impairment. They come from different backgrounds – there are Muslims, Hindus and Christians, and members of different ethnic groups.

Sefali – 28 years old. Sefali has been working since 2004 and is in charge of the Carpet Workshop. She lives with her mother in her own house.

 

 

Sima – 20 years old. Sima is weaving carpets since 2007 and lives with her parents and 3 siblings. She learns how to read and write from a tutor who comes twice a week to the Workshop.

 

 

Babli – 25 years old. Babli has been working since 2006 and weaves kilims. She lives with her mother and two siblings and learns how to read and write in the Workshop.

 

 

 

Kalpana – 20  years old. Kalpana has been working in the Workshop since 2005, weaving kilims, and lives with her parents and one brother.

 

 

 

Priya – 19 years old. Priya first came to the Workshop in 2007. She has recently started making kilims. Priya lives at home with her parents and one brother.

 

 

 

Sharmin – 20 years old. Sharmin works in the Workshop since 2009. She makes carpets. Sharmin lives with relatives in town.

 

 

 

Sabina – 20 years old. Sabina has been working since 2007. She weaves kilims. She lives with her mother and three siblings a little outside Mymensingh.

 

 

 

Nipa – 19 years old. Nipa has been in the workshop since 2009. She helps sorting out the wool and prepare it for the weaving. She lives with her parents and two siblings.

 

 

Moyna – 21 years old. Moyna has been working since 2009. She weaves kilims. Moyna lives with her mother and younger sister and follows the classes of the tutor coming to the Workshop to learn to read and write. 

 

 

Mitu – 24 years old. Mitu is working since 2004, weaving kilims. She lives with her mother and younger brother.

 

 

 

Ayna – 27 years old. Ayna has been working since 2007. She is weaving carpets. She lives with her mother.

 

 

 

Nopali – 25 years old. Nopali weaves carpets since 2007. As she is not from Mymensingh, she lives as a boarder in a nearby home for girls. She follows the classes of the tutor coming to the Workshop twice a week.
